Albrighton Hall Hotel and Spa, a member of Radisson Individuals

We stayed in the school masters house. The room was very clean, with a comfy bed, though the TV could have been better. Staff were really friendly, and local guests were chatty and helpful with tips for visiting Shrewsbury. Breakfast couldn’t be faulted. The spa had a good variety of facilities and was enjoyable, although the pool is a bit small for swimming. A fine, old-school hotel on landscaped grounds. I’d definitely return.

We stayed from 1st-3rd January, arriving at 3pm to find our room wasn’t ready. We said it was no problem, got a drink in the bar and chatted for a while. We were offered use of the facilities but declined. After about 45 minutes, we checked again, and the receptionist apologised that the room still wasn’t ready. We understood, especially as they’d had a hectic New Year. Nell kindly looked for another room that was ready. We weren’t fussed, but she upgraded us to an amazing suite, which made the stay more memorable. She was lovely to us, and I think she’d been getting a lot of abuse from angry guests who couldn’t check in. The hotel was very clean and spacious, and the staff were friendly. The spa was great, though the pool was a little cold and that didn’t bother us. The thermal suite was nice, but the aroma sauna and cold room didn’t seem to be working, which was a shame. The other rooms were great. The bar was reasonably priced and the food really good. A fantastic stay, and Nell is a credit to the team.

A huge thank you to the whole team, especially Elena, who made my event last night spectacular once again. The staff on shift looked after me all day, and Elena oversaw everything so wonderfully. The food was fantastic, with not a single fault while serving 100 people. My bedroom was beautiful as always. I was too tired to use the spa, but my son enjoyed it and said it was lovely. Breakfast was great too. Thanks so much, you’re a great team. Can’t wait to come back.

The afternoon tea was a little better than the spa, and the sandwiches and cakes were a decent selection. But nobody checked on us after the food arrived, and the person behind the bar wasn't welcoming. Finding a hair baked into a scone put us off eating it. The spa was dirty, with hair and bits scattered across the floor, including a pile of what looked like green crystals beside the pool. Some chairs were broken, and neither the jacuzzi nor the aroma steam was working. The staff member who greeted us seemed unwelcoming, as though helping us was a bother. We left disappointed.
