Prince Rupert Hotel

The front office manager was staggeringly rude when I said I couldn't sleep. He refused to help, offered no solution and wouldn't consider moving me to a quieter room. The Prince Rupert Hotel's idea of “character” seems to come with paper-thin walls and no sound insulation. I'm stuck in a room that feels like it's inside the pub next door, with thumping music and people literally screaming in the street coming through the windows. It's been an infuriating, sleepless night, and I feel that once the hotel has your money, it doesn't care whether you get the rest you paid for. Booking here was a massive mistake, and I'll never return. If sleep, peace of mind or basic decency from staff matters to you, avoid this place.

I've stayed at this lovely hotel a couple of times and wanted to give it some well deserved praise. Breakfast was delicious when I had it on Tuesday morning, and the waitress was efficient and gave great customer service. The reception staff are especially caring, and the staff in general are lovely. Thanks for a lovely stay, keep it up.

Breakfast was amazing, well done to the kitchen. The old fashioned bar downstairs was nice, with big chairs, though it could have done with a bit of pipe and cigar smoke. It's a lovely old hotel, and the front of house staff were very polite. The rooms were a little small for the price, and a side drawer was broken. There was no toilet brush either, and it was dusty, but hey, we were only sleeping there for one night.

We took the train, so didn't use the parking, and I personally didn't find the areas tired or in need of renovation, though some reviews say they are. The communal spaces were comfortable, and all the staff were extremely welcoming and friendly. Breakfast was excellent, with good quality ingredients and a mix of self and table service. We had a fantastic three-night stay in late December 2025 and were upgraded to a characterful suite on arrival. It really showed off the charm of this historic building.
