The cottage was lovely, and so were the hosts. They checked whether we had enough logs for the burner, which they’d lit before we arrived. Just be aware that the shower and toilet are downstairs.

Nicki and David’s Old Workshop is a little gem, and the eggs from their own hens taste amazing. The cottage is beautifully designed, very well equipped and comfortable, especially the bed. It’s so quiet that a good night’s sleep comes easily. There are great walks nearby, with a forest about 150 metres up the road, then you can come back to the log burner. We wouldn’t hesitate to visit again, even though a freak snowfall kept us inside for a day. It wants for nothing, and if something isn’t here, you probably don’t need it.

It’s logistically well placed, with lots of great places to visit nearby. The only reason I took a star off for location is that the narrow lanes make it tricky to find. If you’re not used to driving on single country lanes, be warned!

We had some fantastic walks and stopped at local pubs along the way. The Old Workshop is a wonderful retreat, cosy and spotlessly clean. When we got to the cottage, the owners had thoughtfully lit the wood burner ahead of our arrival. We’ll definitely be back.

A small, nicely presented cottage, well furnished and perfectly adequate for two. Take care of the unmarked electric fence and the very slippery bridge at the bottom of the garden.
