Getting to the city by public transport took about an hour. The parking and easy checkout were useful, and it’s close to the airport, but that was about it for me. I didn’t feel comfortable in the house. They greeted us warmly, but the friendliness dropped as soon as it was clear I didn’t want to, or couldn’t, pay in cash. You have to take your shoes off, which is fine in itself, but it was awkward sharing the space with people we didn’t know. Slippers were allowed in the shared bathroom only, not on the way to our room. There was a strong, unusual food smell in the house. At check-in we had to read and sign several pages of rules, and there were more notices all around the bathroom about what you could and couldn’t do. I understand the owners want to keep things clean, but this felt like too much. There’s a strict quiet period from 9pm to 7am, yet the owners made a lot of noise until midnight. The comforter smelled of sweat, though the linens didn’t. I suspect it hadn’t been washed for a long time.

The bed was so uncomfortable I couldn’t sleep, and the strict quiet rule after 9pm added to the feeling that we were in a prison camp. This didn’t feel like a B&B, more like rooms being let out in someone’s house. I was shocked and disappointed, especially after seeing so many good reviews. One sheet said guests could get a free breakfast on their next stay for leaving a good review, so I don’t think the reviews are necessarily honest. After driving 11 hours from Scotland, the last thing I wanted was to read and sign four A4 pages of rules and possible fines. The paperwork said we could be fined for having anyone in the room, staining sheets, smoking and several other things. We had to take off our shoes in the porch, where an envelope with a key was waiting. The owners said they didn’t live there, but seemed to, and came to check we’d signed the forms. I’ve never stayed at a B&B where guests are told to take the rubbish out before leaving. The front of the house looked badly run down, which made for a poor first impression. A friend stayed at a much nicer hotel a few miles away for only £30 more. I’d pay extra next time I’m in Coventry.

The hosts were amazing and made us feel welcome. It’s a lovely place with a comfy bed and good internet, close to the shops. The tea, coffee, water and biscuits were nice too. After travelling, I even managed to wash my clothes there. There are some really good takeaways nearby.

The hosts were so lovely, and the place felt safe and comfortable. It was pretty and very clean too. I'd happily stay again!
