I’ve lived here for two years and have really enjoyed it. The rooms are well soundproofed, and the monthly community events have helped me make lots of friends. My studio has an extractor fan and a small fridge, which makes everyday life easier. There’s also a little park nearby. The location is hard to beat: there’s a well-stocked supermarket downstairs, a bus stop beside the building with a direct route to the University of Southampton Highfield Campus, and the city centre is a short walk away. I often go to West Quay for fresh fruit and vegetables. Staff are very friendly and helpful, and when I report small room problems through the app, they’re usually fixed the same day. The 24-hour security makes me feel safe. A special thanks to Lisa at reception, who’s always warm and welcoming and goes out of her way to help. I love living here!

Some belongings went missing after maintenance work, and reception only said they’d compensate us without explaining how or offering a concrete solution. During the flooding chaos, items in the fridge were thrown away without warning. Compensation has been discussed repeatedly, but nothing has changed in practice. Room and flat doors were left wide open, and downstairs security was ineffective, so random people could still get upstairs. Cleaning staff even went into the wrong room and threw away personal belongings by mistake. After the serious flooding, Yugo didn’t arrange proper temporary accommodation, leaving us wandering outside with nowhere to go. They promised daily food allowances, but two months later we still haven’t received them or a clear update. Many items in our rooms were damaged. Yugo said the insurance company would handle everything, but the insurer told us Yugo hadn’t followed up or replied to its emails. We’ve also chased Yugo for money owed for refurbishment and repairs and had no response. Communication has been awful, the staff have not taken responsibility, and their handling of the flooding was extremely poor. Based on my experience, I see no reason to choose Yugo as an accommodation provider.

During the flooding, Yugo didn’t arrange proper temporary accommodation, leaving us with nowhere to go. They promised a daily food allowance, but two months have passed and it still hasn’t been paid. They blamed the insurance company for damaged belongings, yet the insurer said Yugo never properly contacted them. Some things went missing after maintenance and cleaning, and with doors left open, random people could get upstairs. The staff have been irresponsible, communication has been terrible, and compensation keeps being promised without being delivered. I had an awful experience and strongly advise people against living here. If you have another option, stay away.

The shower wouldn’t unhook properly, so I couldn’t wash myself properly. The window in our room wouldn’t open, there was no air conditioning, and it was unbearably hot. We were given only a little desk fan, which did nothing, and neither my girlfriend nor I slept all night. When I called reception for help, the staff member suggested moving the mattress to the kitchen area, or, after I said we’d be out for some of the evening, sleeping on a park bench. We followed the first suggestion and moved the mattress into the kitchen, so we didn’t even sleep in the room we’d paid for. This was one night, two days ago, and it’s one I won’t get back. I can’t imagine a student staying here all year in these conditions. I’d avoid it.

The staff are nice, but the building is miserable. Even setting aside the malfunctioning facilities, street noise, doors banging and people talking at night are enough to make you suffer.
