Spot In The Woods

We picked this place in the woods for our tenth anniversary, and the manager was lovely about giving us detailed recommendations for local restaurants. We had a great time eating at the hotel too: breakfast and dinner were delicious, there was plenty to choose from, and the brunch menu was good. One afternoon we had coffee and caramel and apple pie, which was amazing. Our room felt spacious and relaxing, with a large shower and bath. There was also a separate seating area with tea and coffee, a dressing table, wardrobe and safe. The restaurant and bar are welcoming and a bit quirky, and the staff made the atmosphere comfortable with excellent service. Outside, you can sit on the decking or on benches in the garden. We’d certainly come back when we want to stay near the New Forest.

Fiona was so helpful when the cabin felt a little tight for our extended family and two small children. She offered us another room, but the children loved the cabin, so we stayed there. It was cute, had clever storage and gave us a properly rustic experience. There’s a semi-private seating area that I imagine would be lovely for a drink on a summer evening. The shower was large and everything had a high-quality finish, and there were some lovely gifts waiting for us when we arrived. My Grandad’s hotel room was lovely too, with a big bathroom and a freestanding bath he really enjoyed. When the TV gave him trouble on our second night, a staff member came straight up to fix it. The restaurant food was really tasty and high quality. We had a lovely weekend and will come back to the New Forest. I’d recommend it to couples and families. Thank you Spot in the Woods!

The terrace was lovely to sit on in the warm weather, and the staff were really friendly. We chose the place because it welcomes dogs. Breakfast was fine, and the coffee was alright, though the food felt pretty average compared with other places around the forest. I remember it being better. Still worth stopping by if you’re nearby, especially with a dog, but I wouldn’t make a special trip for it.

We spent three nights in a Shepherds Hut with our dog Billy, and it was a great base for exploring the New Forest. The place is very dog friendly, which we loved, and the hut was clean and just right. They’d left dog treats, gin and biscuits as a lovely welcome. Breakfast was incredible and set us up for the day; we recommend the full English and Bakery on the menu. They even had a menu for dogs. The food was excellent, and everyone on staff was so friendly and keen to help, especially Ty. We really hope we can stay again.
