The bed was awful. After four days on a mattress that was just springs and sagged all the way to the base, I had back and leg pain. The bed was dirty, the sheets had hairs and other stuff on them, and it should have been replaced decades ago. The carpet looked like it was from the 1960s, stained and clearly not vacuumed for a long time. I lifted the bed to check. The room was in bad shape from ceiling to floor, whatever the old or doctored Booking.com photos show. Only one window opened, and it was stuck open because the locks and handles had been removed. That's a security and health risk. The bedside lamps didn't work either. The bathroom was generally dirty, with mold on the shower curtain. Water got all over the floor, and there was no mop or floor mat to deal with it. The flooring was nailed to the wall, and the little children's mirror was far too low. The kitchen was dirty and rusty and smelled of mold. Outside, shopping trolleys and broken furniture were scattered around. It looked as if nothing had been maintained, cleaned, gardened, or landscaped in decades. Broken equipment was left at the entrance too, with no one even trying to remove it. I contacted the property management company for a refund after the first night and am still waiting for an answer. This belongs on Slumlords.com, not Booking.com. I don't believe any rating above 1 here is genuine. Don't believe it.

Absolutely disgusting. It smelled of weed and hadn't been cleaned. There weren't any towels for the shower, if you could even find it. The one good thing was a very friendly Polish couple.

I booked two rooms at the Thornbury Guesthouse In Southampton, but only got entry passkey details for one. The owner said the other room was no longer available, then assigned us a room without a toilet or shower. Both rooms smelled bad and were dirty. We had trouble opening one door, and when we finally got in, someone else was already there. They left the room but stayed on the property, so we couldn't safely leave our things behind. The shared toilet had no toilet paper. We were very disappointed and seriously considered staying here.

Vile. The place was a disaster, from flies, dirty sheets, an unclean kitchen and moldy bathrooms to dirty walls and people downstairs who smelled of drugs. The photos don't show what it's really like. Men who I don't think were guests were snooping around my room. Thankfully another male guest came down and asked them to leave. We messaged the owner about a refund but got no answer. How is somewhere like this allowed to operate? I'd give it minus four stars if I could. Do not stay here.

The location is the main plus. The centre is about a 20-minute walk or a five-minute drive away, and the place might suit you if you only plan to come back to sleep. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend it. The property felt dodgy, wasn't clean, and really needs a facelift. The front door wasn't properly closed when we came back. On arrival, two blokes were hanging around the doorway and acting sketchy. I believe they were dealing and using drugs at the property. We booked a double but were given a single room for two people. There was no window, just a fire door, so we couldn't get fresh air at night. Free WiFi was advertised, but there was no information anywhere about internet or how to connect. All they provided was towels, so I had to use shower gel to wash my hands. The room's toilet was private, but the bathroom was next door and pretty poor, with a weak shower and no amenities. One socket had a wire in it and looked tampered with. It sparked once when I tried plugging my phone into the other socket. There was a lamp on top of the wardrobe, but its plug had no pin at the top. There are plenty of other negatives I could list.
