Melal Hotel Apartments

The apartments were filthy and unhygienic. The manager who greeted us seemed stoned and smelled strongly of cannabis. You could smell it throughout the building because they were smoking in their ground floor apartment. There was no shower door or curtain, so water went everywhere. Anyone listing this place on a website should think twice. If you've got young kids, avoid it unless you want them getting high off the weed fumes.

The owners were pleasant, and we had an excellent stay overall. It's near the beach and rail station, one stop from the town centre, and worth every penny. We'd definitely like to come again. My only complaint was getting attention at the main desk. Before the stay we tried to ask something by phone and got no answer. We also stopped by and rang the desk bell, but nobody came out.

We were told the apartment had a kitchen, but there was no stove when we arrived. A kitchen faucet doesn't make it a kitchen without one. Cleaning was meant to happen weekly, yet the first clean wasn't until day 12, after I complained on day 10. Over 28 days, the linens were changed three times, as were the towels, though towels were supposed to be changed twice a week. People kept knocking on our window to be let into the building. It was intrusive and disturbing, and nothing was done. Overall, very disappointing.

The apartment was clean, which is the only good thing I can say. None of the bathroom lights worked, there were holes in the walls where handles had hit, and a dangerous hole in the hallway by the light switch. The smell in the communal hallway was awful. There was no welcome pack with tea, coffee or sugar, so if you arrived late you couldn't have a hot drink until the next day. The beds and pillows were uncomfortable, and there was no toilet brush. Although it slept five, the lounge only had seating for four. Would I stay again? No.
