The Hope Hotel

We just popped in for a few drinks on Saturday night with the family. We had a really good night and felt very welcome. The staff were lovely, and it’s a proper little pub. I’ll definitely be back!

The staff were friendly and nice, and they knew what we were signing up for, but the hotel itself was a dreadful experience for my husband and me. We stayed one night and it ruined the mood for the whole trip. The place was outdated and poorly maintained, with a serious need for renovation. Our room was disappointing, dirty and inconvenient. The carpet was stained and faded, the shower cubicle was a tiny one-metre box, and the toilet was shared, also in a one-metre box. The window was so stiff I could hardly move it, let alone close it. The spring mattress had a bump, and now my back is damaged. Misery at its finest.

The staff are wonderful. It was amazing, and that’s why I’ve gone back to the hotel.

I only stopped for drinks at the bar and didn’t stay at the hotel. It seems to be a locals’ bar, and the staff didn’t know how to pour a Guinness. They just pulled the lever and put the glass down without letting it settle or tilting and holding the glass. The floors were sticky, and on a hot day all the windows and doors were shut, so the place smelled stale. The garden area was okay, though not particularly picturesque. The biggest problem was a group in the garden openly smoking weed and talking about the drugs they had on them.
