Cley Hall Hotel

The staff were kind and did their best to help, and the smart TV was a nice touch. I didn't try breakfast, so I can't comment on it. But I was very disappointed overall and don't think I'll return. I booked an executive room expecting an upgrade, yet it was called “Attic” and sat on the top floor, which was awkward with luggage. Beyond the room door there was another narrow, steep staircase up to the bedroom. With sloping ceilings on both sides, only the middle had full headroom, so the room felt cramped. I paid £272 for two nights as a solo guest, which seemed expensive for the area. The car park was full when I arrived, so I had to use a nearby paid public car park. Sockets were inconveniently placed, with none by the bed or tea and coffee tray. There was no drinking water or teaspoon in the room, though the woman at the bar kindly gave me water when I asked. The bathroom sink drain smelled unpleasant, there were damp marks under the window, and daily housekeeping wasn't provided or clearly explained.

We were in town for a family gathering and found the room quiet, comfortable and very spacious. Parking was easy, the staff were pleasant, and breakfast was great. I'd recommend staying here. The centre of Spalding is close by on foot and well worth seeing. Breakfast was good, especially the salmon and eggs, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. The bar shuts at 10pm, though often a little before then. Unfortunately, the central heating failed again, so we had no hot water for a shower that morning. It was repaired later, thankfully, so the stay wasn't a complete disaster.

I travel for work a lot and usually avoid the big chains, so I thought I had a fair idea what Cley Hall would be like. It was far better than I expected. The room was lovely, spotlessly clean, and had the most comfortable bed I've slept in. Really good value too. Going vegan recently has made eating on the road tricky, but their breakfast menu impressed me, and the Vegan breakfast was so good. The staff were lovely as well. I realised after I'd left that I'd forgotten my rings in the room. They mean a lot to me, and Gemma was wonderful when I called to explain. They posted them out and I got them two days after my stay. Such friendly, personable people. I'll stay at Cley Hall again when I'm back in the area, and I'd definitely recommend it.
