I only stayed one night, but the bright, tidy bedroom had plenty of storage and a kettle with tea and coffee. The open-plan bar is large and comfortable, with Draught Bass and two other cask ales. We had one meal and enjoyed it. The dining room and meals are popular, so booking a table is a good idea. Booking direct gets you a breakfast discount. I'd stay again at this friendly town-centre Hotel/pub. Parking is at nearby Drapers Place Car Park, less than five minutes from the Red Lion. It's been modernised, so don't let the 2018 Google Street View images put you off.

For my mother's 90th birthday last Saturday, the family came up together from the south-east and I booked four rooms at the Red Lion. Louise and her team were delightful from start to finish, and nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were clean and well appointed, and the whole stay ticked every box. Although breakfast isn't usually provided for non-residents, Mum was able to join us on Sunday morning and loved it. Thank you again.

The food is so good. Roos cannaloni or cheese sangas are the best, and the chips are proper 🧡. Staff are amazing, honestly the best, and the punters are friendly and welcoming too. Rooms are clean and I sleep well.

We didn't stay overnight, so I can't say anything about the rooms. We came in for food on Friday, which was Pie night, and were glad we did. The pie was good, with lovely roasted carrots and proper chunky homemade chips, no skinny fries. Staff were friendly.

A few friends and I had our Christmas meal on 11 December. The table was beautifully set, and the servers were so helpful and polite, with nothing too much trouble. The meal was lovely, and the vegetables were cooked beautifully. Everything was just right for the price. One of the best Christmas meals I've had in a long time. Well done to everyone, especially the chef.
