The hotel was very clean, and the staff really tried, even though some may have limited English. For what we paid, that’s about what I expected. My main reason for not returning is the strong cannabis smell in the downstairs hallway, which hung around all weekend. I’m not sure whether the council uses the hotel for emergency accommodation, but the smell and feel gave me that impression. There was also a very loud party. My family could hear every word upstairs, though the noise was more muted on the second floor where my four-year-old and I stayed. He wouldn’t have slept otherwise. There’s no handrail at the entrance and no lift inside, so it may not suit older guests or people who have difficulty with stairs. My nan struggled a bit. We chose a cheap stay and didn’t expect much, but I still wouldn’t come back because of the cannabis smell. The rest was clean and about what the price suggests.

The room was huge and very clean, and I couldn’t fault the staff. Breakfast was better than expected, with a full English, cereals and a choice of drinks. The location worked perfectly for our plans. A brilliant stay for the price, and highly recommended.

Breakfast seemed aimed at just one sort of guest, and I wasn’t satisfied with the stay overall. At OYO Eagle House Hotel, the room and washroom needed proper maintenance, and I don’t think either had been cleaned before check-in. It was a pretty mediocre experience, and I won’t be back.

This 19th-century mansion in Hastings has been converted into 24 rooms. The property is fairly updated, quiet, clean and comfortable. Check-in was quick and friendly, and there’s free parking out front as well as free breakfast. We had a good experience at OYO Eagle House Hotel, and I recommend it.

The bed was comfortable and the staff were polite and friendly. It’s very close to the sea, too. The hotel itself feels tired and could use a refurb, with lots of scuffs and bodge jobs. Still, it works for a cheap one-night stay if you’ll be out most of the time.
