The George Of Stamford

We eat here often and had always wanted to stay. The hotel is beautiful, big and full of character, with so much attention to detail. There are lovely rooms to wander through and loads of orchids in the garden room. Even the ladies' toilet was a work of art, painted with cherubs and vines. The staff were just perfect. An Italian waiter at breakfast made us crack up and really made our morning. The food is always perfect too. Breakfast was simply right, with nothing needing seasoning or changing, and they even source their bacon from Derby because it's award winning. Our room was perfect, with a spotless bathroom and great shower pressure. It was a treat, and we'll be back. Dog friendly too, with no silly extra charge for our little Daisy. Couldn't fault it, 10/10.

We had sea bass, mussels and lamb chops for dinner at The George with my wife and daughter. Every dish was cooked and seasoned perfectly, and the food was outstanding. The service was exceptional, and the setting extraordinary. We'll definitely do it again. If you want first-class dining, this is the place.

We were looking for somewhere near Burghley House and found this beautiful hotel through a Google search. My husband and I stayed with my sister and her husband, and it was absolutely delightful. The staff were welcoming and attentive, and the atmosphere had lots of charm, with cosy, quiet areas and plenty of character. Our rooms felt personal and warm, with elegant, thoughtful details. It's a lovely place to unwind after exploring nearby Burghley House or strolling and shopping around Stamford. If you want a relaxing, charming stay near history with great hospitality, you'll love The George.

We stayed at the George for the first time on Saturday 22nd Nov 2025. The ambience and service, apart from reception, seem to be what you're paying for. There are a couple of pleasant bar areas, but we only tried breakfast, where the service was a little inattentive and my order came wrong. At check-in there was just one person on reception, occupied with other guests for quite a while, so we had an awkward wait in a crowded area. We were able to check in an hour or two early. We booked one of the cheaper rooms, which had a large iron burn on the carpet. The TV was small with poor definition, though we didn't need it much. The shower temperature control button had broken off, and it took a while to figure out how to adjust the temperature. The most disappointing part came at checkout, when we asked to leave the car in the car park for a few hours while we went into Stamford. The reception woman wasn't very helpful and gave us a categorical no. The car park was almost empty when we left Sunday morning. I'm not sure we'll stay again.
