We stopped by early on a Tuesday evening, so this may not be everyone's experience. It's easy to find when coming to Stamford from Oakham or Rutland Water, directly opposite the petrol station. Street parking is limited, but there's Pay & Display not far down the road, just past the traffic lights. The staff were friendly, local beers were on pump, and dogs are welcome.

We chose this place as the first pub on our Christmas Eve pub crawl for my best friend's birthday, 24th December 2025. The person at the bar welcomed us, though didn't say much beyond taking our drinks order. Three pints came to just under £ 16.00 pounds. The pub was very cold and didn't have any Christmas cheer or atmosphere, but it has some good cycling memorabilia. In one room an old-fashioned tandem bicycle hangs suspended in the air, and the walls have lots of lovely period photos of bicycles and people. Nice place to visit, and we'll be back. Come along for a good time and great beer. GERALD, CHRIS & JON.😁👍🏻👍🏻

A sociable pub with a great range of drinks and a properly friendly, welcoming feel, whether you're new to the area or a local. The service is second to none, and it's an easy favourite in Stamford, in a great spot.

The food took ages to arrive, and £175 for two adults felt far too expensive. The Christmas pudding was catering-style and came without brandy butter or sauce, while custard was brought over without us asking for it. There was no cauliflower cheese and hardly any gravy. I’d booked Christmas Day lunch in advance with my elderly aunt, but was surprised to learn we had only a one-hour slot and had to pay in full when booking. I’d expected to pay a deposit. When I complained, nobody apologized or offered any customer service.

Georgie was such a joy to be served by, and the chat behind the bar was brilliant. It’s a beautiful historic building in a splendid location too. I’ll be back soon and would recommend a visit!
