Oak Tree Inn

We spent two nights here after visiting Beamish, and found the room comfortable and a good size. The pub was extremely friendly, and breakfast was fantastic.

We had dinner in the restaurant, and the food was excellent. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The room was wonderful, except that we were upstairs in a building with a very steep roof, so the bedroom ceiling sloped into a triangle. I'm short, but still had to keep watching my head.

The bar service from one female staff member was the worst customer service I've ever had. I know her name but won't say it. I live locally, and it felt like if your face doesn't fit, they treat you like crap. Disgusting place. There are plenty of better pubs around.

We came for the Beamish living museum, about a 10-minute drive away, and had no complaints. The pub feels like a proper local village boozer, with regular local characters who made us welcome and had great banter. I ended up doing shots with them on our second night! During the week there was evening entertainment, from speed quizzes to a disco. The beer was well kept and the hospitality was great. Our room was cosy, clean and comfortable, with what you'd expect from a 3-star pub B&B. Breakfast was brilliant for £7.50 extra: a full English, fresh orange juice, cereal, tea, coffee and toast, all served with a smile. We'll definitely return next time we're in the north east. Thanks for making us feel so welcome.
