Dun Cow Inn

The food came out piping hot and was beautifully presented, even with the place busy and our group being large. The staff were lovely, and the old decor gives it a nice traditional feel. The toilets were clean too. Parking was hard because there were so many people, though that wasn’t the pub’s fault. My only small criticism is that staff started clearing plates before everyone had finished eating. They didn’t realise at first, but carried on clearing. I know they didn’t mean anything by it. We didn’t stay to comment on the rooms. Thank you x

There’s lovely art on the walls, and the place has the kind of decor and atmosphere I love about the UK, all for a reasonable price. My wife and I stayed two nights and enjoyed the friendly staff and the pleasant people who come here. We had fun chatting with others over breakfast. The bus stop for Durham is only a short walk away. Highly recommend!

The way we were treated made us feel unwelcome, and the visit was really disappointing. We were seated right in front of the kitchen walkway, with staff constantly carrying hot food past us. With a toddler, that felt unsafe. Several staff members acted as if we were a nuisance just for being there, and were rude, dismissive and disrespectful throughout. Basic safety and consideration for families should matter. Unfortunately, this has put us off coming back.

The food was wonderful, the room was great, and Richard and his staff gave us friendly, professional service throughout. I played a gig at the Sedgefield Parish Hall on 17 January 2026 and stayed at the hotel afterward. Richard’s service was exemplary. I can’t recommend this hotel enough.
