Lillium House

I had a one-night stay, so this is just my experience and not a verdict on the whole place. Anyone in hospitality can have an off day, and nobody sets out to give guests a bad stay. This is a lovely, out-of-the-way B&B in the Yorkshire countryside, with a great host and a clean, homely feel. My room was small but comfortable. The guest bathroom is shared, which was fine as I was the only guest during my visit. I ordered a vegetarian breakfast the night before; it was freshly cooked and really tasty. The coffee was great too. Recommended.

It felt like staying in a friend’s home, not a hotel. The owners were so welcoming, and the care in the place felt genuine. You see family and graduation photos around you, and the old-fashioned furnishings, wooden staircase, family dining table and Christmas tree all gave it a homely feel. The little touches made me comfortable: my single room had a wide bed, a big window and a comfy sofa facing the lovely view. The shared bathroom was large and spotless. Breakfast was served at a large wooden dining table with proper tableware. I liked the big coffee, sweetener beside the sugar, milk instead of creamer, and even the classical music on the radio. I travel a lot and can tell genuine hospitality from artificial hospitality, and this was as genuine as it gets. One of the most comfortable places I’ve stayed. I’d recommend it any day of the week, twice on Sunday. Thank you to the owners for making me feel welcome.

The house is gorgeous, with a striking central staircase that the whole place seems to have been built around. It’s a peaceful spot among quiet farmland, a great base for visiting this part of the North. The rooms were spotless and comfortable, with everything I needed, and the attention to detail was excellent. It’s clearly a much-loved family home, very well maintained. The people were friendly and helpful.

We stayed for five days recently and only wished we could have stayed longer. The room was fabulous, with amazing attention to detail, from the top-quality linen to the beautiful tableware. Valerie and Chris were fantastic hosts, and nothing was too much trouble. This room will spoil you for others.
