The Impeccable Pig

The food was good and the other staff were polite, but our meal was overshadowed by the woman serving us. She was stand-offish from the outset and stayed that way throughout. She told my partner we were late, even though we were 15 minutes early for our booking, then seemed annoyed and said she'd have to check whether a table was free despite the place being nearly empty. There may have been a mix-up, but the way she handled it was bizarre.

The decor is really nice, and the waiter who brought our water was very polite. The rest of the visit was a letdown. Our steak was chargrilled until the outside was burnt, which overwhelmed the flavour, and when I raised it, the waitress said it hadn't been burnt and had just been in the oven. For that price, I expected much better. We also waited around 20 minutes after repeatedly saying we were ready for our mains. Before that, it took about 40 minutes to get our order taken, even though we asked three times. Our waitress said the manager was taking orders table by table, but when we asked him on the third attempt, he said she could have done it. The staff seemed oddly disengaged, and one waiter chewing gum and blowing bubbles didn't inspire confidence. A drink we ordered never arrived until we asked about it a couple of times. We'd travelled from out of town and had really wanted to like the place, but the slow service, strange staff atmosphere and badly cooked main put us off. I won't be rushing back.

We had lunch here in a nicely fitted-out pub restaurant. Most of the food was very good, though not every dish. Service felt a bit hit and miss. Most of the staff were pleasant and accommodating, but could use more focused training.

The way we were treated made what should have been a happy family celebration really uncomfortable. We were there after my mam and dad's wedding, and my mam had phoned beforehand to ask about booking. She was told it would be quiet and that we didn't need one. When we arrived, the woman seating us seemed annoyed that we wanted the restaurant area instead of the bar. If she'd explained why that wasn't possible, we would have been happy to sit in the bar, but she gave no reason and was hostile from the start. The rude, awful service continued through the meal. I know customer service work can be difficult, but this wasn't acceptable, especially for an occasion that mattered so much to my family. It's a shame the experience has spoiled what should have been a lovely memory. If you're considering coming here for a special occasion, I'd strongly avoid it. Honestly, I'd avoid it altogether.
