The area is gorgeous, with a sandy beach nearby, a spectacular waterfall, coastal cliff walks, and Lochinver only a 15-minute drive away for supplies or coffee and cake. We ended up staying in The Byre for two nights unexpectedly after touring northwest Scotland for two weeks, and it was the best surprise of the trip. Paul's cottage is beautifully renovated and very cozy, just right for typical Scottish winter weather. We loved the log burner, and the kitchen is well equipped. There’s an electric shower with plenty of hot water, a good-sized double bedroom with cozy linen, and surprisingly good WiFi for such a remote spot. Paul is a very hospitable host and took great care of us. We had a fantastic short stay and hope to return to The Byre.

Paul was a really friendly, helpful host, and we’d absolutely recommend staying here. Smithy House was very clean, nicely decorated, and had everything we could want. The heaters and fireplace kept things warm, the kitchen was well stocked, and the beds were comfortable. There’s a grocery store 15 minutes away, with waterfalls and the ocean close by in this scenic area.

We came away feeling refreshed after how quiet and peaceful it was here. Paul was a lovely, welcoming host, and the stay gave us a wonderful taste of life in the Highlands. It’s another reason for us to return to the Scottish countryside. Thanks, Paul, for your kind hospitality.

The beaches are gorgeous, with clear water and white sand, and the scenery feels almost Jurassic. We were pleasantly surprised by the local food: pizza from the local Jammery, fish and chips from the Catch Toll in Clachtoll, and the best pie I’ve ever had at the Lochinver Larder, spicy butternut, sweet potato and goats cheese. There are photo opportunities everywhere. The Smithy House in Stoer is fantastic, right on the NC500, with a wonderful host and stunning surroundings. This is the furthest north we’ve ever been, and the trip was definitely worth it. We’ll come back to explore more.

We stayed one night in the Byre on 20 June 23 and loved it. The cottage finish was exceptional, and the host was incredibly helpful. Thanks, Paul. I’m looking forward to coming back and enjoying the wood burner with a good book.
