The lamb was delicious, even though I usually avoid it because it can be disappointing, and the porchetta was great too. Portions were generous, the veg was lovely, including cauliflower cheese, and it was really good value. We eat out as a group on Sundays and have plenty of great local pubs to choose from. We’d never been to Stoke Lodge before, but it definitely won’t be our last. The week after, we went farther afield to a pub known for exceptional food, and it didn’t come close to our meal here. Friendly staff and a great wine list as well. We’ll be back. There were 12 of us for a fabulous Sunday lunch at the hotel.

We walked to Dartmouth on Boxing Day, and the hotel even arranged a lift back. Nothing was too much trouble, and we were treated so well that we’re already on the list to go back next year. On Christmas morning we had a lovely walk to Blackpool sands. Christmas dinner was on another level, and the chef and kitchen staff were amazing. This was our first Christmas away, so my husband and I weren’t sure what to expect from the festive break package, from Christmas Eve through the day after Boxing Day. It was amazing. It’s a lovely small hotel run by a wonderful couple, with their family and team helping out. The food was plentiful and out of this world, and all the staff were warm and welcoming. Thank you all for making our Christmas so enjoyable and memorable.

The food was out of this world good, and the rooms were clean with a super comfy bed. We had a fabulous weekend in a stunning location, with friendly, attentive staff. Stay here, you won’t regret it.

We didn’t stay in the rooms, though we did see a couple. We went to use the swimming pool, sauna and jacuzzi. The old Victorian villa style building has great sea views, and the gardens are nice, with a fairly nice outdoor pool. The indoor pool is pretty small, so it’s not much use for swimming lengths, but it’s really nice for a dip while using the sauna. The water wasn’t cold, though it wasn’t too warm either, unlike the one at Dartmouth golf club. Between the bar and pool there’s a games room with a free full size pool table and a foozeball table. The pool and sauna area is clean and well maintained. We really liked the feel of the place and how cared for it seems. It isn’t massively high end, but it was nice and good value. Shame there wasn’t a gym!

The food was incredible, some of the best we’ve ever tasted. The chef was outstanding, and we’ll never forget the meals. Hot breakfast was delicious, and the buffet had classy touches like homemade granola, muffins and purées in the yogurt. Dinner was a la carte. My local family came for a meal, and my aunty has already planned another visit. The room was newly renovated and beautiful, generous in size, with a separate room for the children. The bathroom was large and had some clever features: an integrated toothbrush charger, a little light by the loo that came on as you approached, and a mirror with built in light. There were also usb and usbc chargers by the bed. Alex and Myles run this place with their families, and it’s full of heart. We loved our stay. Service was excellent, and every staff member was warm, friendly and accommodating. The hotel is perfectly placed for exploring the South Hams coastline. We have family in Devon and visited our favourite spots, but if you don’t know Devon, it’s a great base for exploring lots of different beaches.
