Breakfast had a decent continental and cooked selection and was good value, though we waited a while with just one person serving. Our room was cosy, very clean, and furnished in a modern style. The big bed was comfortable and warm. The bathroom was clean but its decor looked a little tired. We were in room 1, which I think was above the bar. It got noisy, especially after closing when staff were clearing up, and that carried on for a while.

Clarkes Village is right across the road, with its own car park about a 10 minute walk from the Bear. The attached parking is fine, but check the signs carefully since it is known for issuing lots of penalty notices. It’s a handy place to meet up, with good food and staff, though it can get busy and food may take a long time. Someone in our party complained about a lamb dish, and they changed it straight away.

The place and rooms were nice. We’d told them we would arrive late, but the bar shut 15 minutes early. They wouldn’t serve us a drink while cashing up, or add it to our room. At breakfast there weren’t any plant-based milks or yoghurts.

We found the welcome warm and friendly. The room was spacious and clean, with tea and coffee supplied. Food in the restaurant was plentiful and well cooked, and the service felt relaxed and friendly.

We had a lovely dinner and found parking convenient. The rooms were clean and really comfortable. Everyone was friendly when we arrived and just as welcoming when we left. I’d recommend staying here.
