The views across that unusual landscape and the lovely rooms and suites are what I keep thinking about, along with the good people in the kitchen and on the service team. I first came across this wonderful house years ago while stopping for coffee, and had wanted to return for a longer stay ever since. We were lucky to get sunny, warm weather, which felt very un-Scottish, though obviously the hotel can't control that. I'd happily come back when Scotland is on the agenda again.

Our two spaniels were welcome in the brasserie, and got to wander around the lovely grounds before dinner. The team at Kilcamb made the evening feel special, with friendly, excellent service and a delicious meal, beautifully presented. The chef also adjusted dishes for my gluten and dairy intolerance without losing any of the taste or lovely presentation. Thank you to everyone there.

The restaurant has a thoughtfully chosen wine list, and we really enjoyed a glass of exquisite South African dessert wine. The meal itself was superb, with warm, kind service: rich and creamy seafood chowder with bread fresh from the oven, then tender sea trout with satisfyingly crisp skin. The chowder was indulgent without being cloying, and everything was just right. Can't wait to go back!

If you're after somewhere quiet, away from the crowds, this is a lovely spot, with hiking routes nearby. The back roads do take some getting used to, though. They're single lane with passing places, and can feel nerve-racking. The old hotel is quaint, the setting is scenic and peaceful, and the staff were super friendly and helpful. We had breakfast in the restaurant but didn't get the chance to try dinner.

The staff are what make this hotel, and the food is excellent too. It's dog friendly, with lots of nice walks nearby, and about an hour door to door from Fort William. Don't overthink it, just book.
