Stonehouse Court Hotel

Our stay for my wife’s birthday was average. The room was okay, and service varied depending on who we spoke to. A few staff were excellent, but others, especially in the restaurant, made us feel awkward whenever we asked for anything. Breakfast took nearly 45 minutes after we ordered. I appreciate the hotel acknowledging its staffing challenge and allowing a late check in. Thanks to the restaurant manager for arranging a small birthday cake for my wife. We’d asked during booking whether it could be arranged, so it was disappointing that one staff member made us feel as though we shouldn’t have asked.

The Hayloft was spacious, spotless and thoughtfully equipped, with a spa bathroom and a view over the rear courtyard and gardens. Stonehouse Court Hotel had beautiful grounds, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was fantastic too. It was a lovely introduction to the Cotswolds, thank you.

The hotel itself is lovely, and the staff were friendly, but the room let it down. Room 44 was tucked at the back in the 1980/90's extension. For nearly £200 for a standard double, I expected more than a small, tired room. The bathroom door wouldn’t lock, paint had chipped off, and the ventilation fan didn’t work and was badly fitted. We ate in the restaurant, which was pleasant, though drinks took 20 minutes to arrive. We paid £100 for two starters, two mains and two drinks, which felt expensive. At £300 total, I think there are better options. I raised it when leaving and got an apology and assurance the comments would be passed on, but I won’t be back.

We had a private room for a family celebration, and the food was just as good as I remembered. Service became less attentive after the plates were cleared, perhaps because they were a little short staffed. When we went to find someone to order more drinks, they were happy to help.
