We had plenty of parking, but the weekend was spoiled by a string of problems. There was no food served in the evening because of issues, and only too types of drinks were available. Breakfast has improved, but we booked it for the second morning and found the place locked up. We couldn’t even check out properly, so we left the keys in the room. I eventually reached the manager, who had no record of our breakfast booking, and I still haven’t had a refund. We stayed for Valentine’s weekend and I’d been there many times over the years, but the last couple of visits have let me down. Our room was a decent size, but the heating was broken and a portable heater had been put in. The window was cracked, there was no TV remote and some bulbs were out. The sofa was covered in broken crisps, drawer handles were missing, holes from old fittings hadn’t been filled, and seagulls had left mess on the doors and windows.

It’s a good hotel with nice rooms, and the staff were friendly and helpful at check-in. I’m not sure whether the nearby playground belongs to the hotel. If it does, it needs cleaning: there was lots of rubbish and cigarette ends lying around, even a used diaper. If it isn’t theirs, they should still push for it to be cleaned regularly.

When my friend and I arrived to check in a few months ago, we found out our reservation had been cancelled without anyone contacting us. We were left stranded with nowhere to stay because everywhere else was booked. I can’t comment on the facilities since we never got a room. They were rude on the phone, when they answered at all, which was rare. I called and emailed countless times to confirm the booking and got no response, so we thought the room was secure. They ignored my emails too. Thanks Pullman (not). I’ll never book with you again and wouldn’t advise anyone else to either.

The interior has some bright, open spaces, but there aren’t many original features left in the carriages at the back. The more complete carriages at the front weren’t open. The venue needs a lot of care to bring it back to its former glory.

The hospitality is unbeatable, and the room and breakfast were fab. I stayed here for a week three weeks ago and loved it, as usual. Sadly, it was my partner’s last visit, as he passed away.
