The Anchor Inn

We stayed for three nights this week, 10/02/2026. The staff were absolutely lovely and helpful, but our room was above the bar and the bass thumped on until 23:00 every night. The bathroom door wouldn't shut either. I'm coeliac, so the menu's promise of gluten-free breakfasts and other meals on request sounded appealing. There was no gluten-free breakfast on day one, which I could understand, but I expected it to be sorted for day two. It wasn't, and neither was it available on day three. The restaurant and menu notices say gluten-free and vegan food can be provided on request, but that wasn't true for us. If you have dietary requirements, steer clear, as they don't seem to care. And don't ask for rare steak, there's only one option: well done. Enjoy your stay!

The staff were excellent and it wasn't their fault, but they had booked too many people and couldn't cope. When we left with our money back, seven other tables were still waiting to be seated and getting angry. Fewer tables might make for happier customers. Sorry, but we wouldn't go again. I'd booked a table for four for Christmas dinner at 2.30, at £95 a head. We arrived on time, but the table wasn't ready. At 3pm, after waiting, I told the manager I wanted a refund because we weren't prepared to wait any longer. She offered us a free drink and seated us straight away. The starters were lovely. The carvery looked good, but the food was cold when we got back to our table, which was cramped, with as many people seated as possible. We were fed up and asked for our money back again, then left.

We had a fabulous Mother's Day meal here. The Sunday carvery is easily the best in the area. The restaurant was spotless, the staff were very welcoming, and the atmosphere was great. We'll definitely be back.

We visited on the 19/01/26 for a family birthday meal. The food was fantastic, the best restaurant meal I've had in a long time. Everything was fresh and cooked perfectly, and the steak had no fat or gristle. The food and drinks were all reasonably priced. I'll be returning.
