The rooms were clean, smart and comfortable, overlooking the stable yard. The owner met me as I drove in and showed me to my room. The motorway is nearby, but I didn't find it especially noisy. The donkey was more audible, though it wasn't a problem. Breakfast was generous, with fresh fruit, served in the room in a continental style. Getting there takes a little effort: after crossing the motorway, turn sharply right by Lock Cottage and continue to the end. Don't be put off by the gear lying around. No complaints from me, especially for £40 a night.

I'm staying here on my narrowboat for a few days. Eor Lodge is well spoken of, so it could be a worthwhile visit. The nearby canal locks and old canal buildings bring the past to mind. It also seems the Canal and River Trust are growing various waterway plants, ready to plant in the less seedy areas.

I volunteer as a lockkeeper here, and it's a great place to spend time and get out of the house. The picture shows the building used by the canals and rivers trust. Anyone interested in volunteering on the canals can visit the CRY website. You'll be made very welcome. I don't think there's accommodation there, unless there's a nearby b&b. Hope that helps.
