The Singleton Hotel

The music and atmosphere are lovely. The bar staff are always friendly and cheerful.

The toilets are something else. When I came into the Singleton Hotel, the smell hit me straight away. My friends and I ordered drinks from a barman who seemed less than enthusiastic, then sat down. Trance music was playing from the jukebox, but there was no atmosphere at all. We drank up quickly and left before we caught anything contagious. Not a place I'd try again.

They do sell beer, which is something, but when I went there wasn't any draught beer available. That's part of the point of going to a pub, in my view. The prices were okayish, and at least it was better than standing in the rain. The place reminded me of the Slaughtered Lamb in American Werewolf in London: everyone stopped and stared when I came in, and the conversation went quiet while they sized up the new arrival. Personally, I prefer pubs that have beer for sale.

It's a handy place to stay for the town centre, shopping and the Grand Theatre, with Swansea's main bus station an easy walk away. The Odeon and Vue cinemas are a little further but still walkable. There's limited free parking that's hard to find, though a couple of nearby lanes might work, or you can use one of the pay as you go car parks. It was always a warm welcome and good beer. Unfortunately, the business has recently poured its last pint and is now permanently closed.
