The Christmas pudding was probably the best part, and the salmon starter was a decent size, though it was only slices on a plate. The turkey was okay, but the gravy was really salty and the potatoes were cooked but not crispy. The building looked lovely with the fires going, and it felt warm and Christmassy for our group of 20. The service was the bigger problem: nobody checked whether we wanted drinks, how the food was, or if we needed sauces. With such a large table, getting out to fetch drinks wasn’t really possible. The meal was pricey for the quality and portions. Better service and improvements to the starter, gravy, and potatoes would have made it a four-star meal. There’s work to do.

The fish and chips were delicious on my second visit. The batter wasn’t overpowering, and the fish was thick and really tender. The staff were very friendly and helpful. If you’re driving by, stop in, or just pop in and treat yourself.

Had a very comfortable bed and a good shower, and the staff were helpful. It’s a lovely old-world pub, with good food and a cozy bedroom.

The setting is beautiful, and Tessa gave us a great welcome. Our room was comfortable, though the bathrooms could perhaps use a little updating. We only managed to have breakfast, and the food was great. I’d happily come back, and would recommend taking a detour to stay here.

Inside, it has a really rustic feel, and the beer garden is absolutely stunning. It’s a relaxing place, with incredibly helpful staff. Honestly, one of the most beautiful pubs in Dorset, and a must-visit if you’re nearby.
