I’ve stayed in several places while visiting my sister in Tavistock, and one drake road is by far the best. There’s lovely, carefully chosen art and design throughout, and a big drawing room to relax in. The room was clean, comfortable and warm, with lots of thoughtful little touches that made it feel like home. The location is right in town. Don’t be put off by the lack of parking, I saw free spaces outside both times I walked past, and there are several nearby roads and car parks within easy walking distance. I already had breakfast plans, so didn’t try it, but the menu sounded great and the setup looked well thought out. Would thoroughly recommend.

Ian and Jack greeted us when we arrived and were fantastic hosts. The room was beautifully decorated and very clean. It’s tucked away and quiet, but close to the local shops, bars and restaurants. Thanks for having us. I’d certainly consider staying again if I’m in the area.

Jack and Iain made the place feel more like a visit with friends than a stay in an Airbnb. We were especially happy to give Gracie her morning chin scratches, and her, not Jack and Iain. The decor is eclectic and cosy, and every detail feels considered, from Neals Yard toiletries and a steamer to a hairdryer and a huge DVD selection for a night in. The bed was so good I’d travel back to Tavistock just to sleep in it again. We didn’t get to try breakfast, though it smelled amazing. Everywhere in Tavistock is within walking distance, and our family staying elsewhere were genuinely jealous of our accommodation. Every award these apartments have earned feels deserved. What a place. The owners have a real passion for making guests comfortable, and the detail throughout is something rarely seen in hospitality. The rooms are great, and the guest lounge has a quirky, quality mix of No 131 and a twist of Soho house, with eccentric touches, wow wallpaper and fabulous fabrics. It’d make a great party house for a family get together, or a chilled out retreat for two. They’ve set the bar so high that few could compete. 6 out of 5 from me…

I’d booked somewhere else because Drake wasn’t free for all our dates, and quickly realised my mistake. After just one night I pleaded with Iain and Jack to fit us in. Thankfully they could, and we spent our second and third nights in Tavistock there. We had two en-suite rooms in the main house first, which were amazing, then the two bed apartment for the third night, also AMAZING! Iain and Jack think of everything you might need and add lovely touches you wouldn’t think of. There’s nothing I can fault, they really know how to host. This was my second stay and second review, and I won’t stay anywhere else. If you’re visiting Tavi, Mount Kelly or anywhere in Devon, go straight to Drake.
