Shaldon has plenty of character, with a few shops, cafes and restaurants and not too much tourist bustle. For more entertainment, the little ferry takes you over to Teignmouth. We loved sitting in the evening sun on the Clipper Cafe terrace, eating good food and watching the boats and local children swimming in the Teign. Another lovely outing was the short waterside walk through the smuggler's tunnel to a quiet beach for a swim and some sunbathing. Teign Cottage itself is a charming old house, but it also has all the modern comforts we needed. It's roomy, very peaceful, and only a few steps from the water, with just the sound of seagulls outside. Our landlords were so friendly and helpful, especially when we arrived in a bit of a chaotic state, and they made everything easy. We'd happily make the long trip from Germany again and stay here.

We've returned to Teign Cottage every year since the lovely Lesley and Jim took it on. Their care shows in all the little details, and we've fallen for both the cottage and Shaldon. There are great pubs, restaurants and a beach just minutes away, with plenty to do around there. If you've been dreaming of a stay in a thatched cottage, book it. We did once, and keep coming back.

The owners were fantastic and accommodating, and the place had a lovely warm feel. It was spotless and tidy, with everything we needed, including things for the children. We'd definitely stay again.
