Cadmore Lodge Hotel

The location, views and walks are excellent, and the hotel has a fresh feel after what seems to be a fairly recent refurbishment. Our Super Deluxe Double was adequate. Breakfast was mixed: the continental selection was a little sparse, while the full English was excellent. There was a loud group in the restaurant, which also serves as the function room, on the evening we stayed, so we skipped eating there. If you're after a quiet break, check whether an event is scheduled. All in all, a moderately adequate stay.

The staff were fantastic, especially Julie, who made me feel very welcome and treated every request as no trouble at all. I was there for two nights on a work trip. It was quiet midweek, which suited me. The weather was awful and, with the November evenings getting dark, I didn't get to explore the grounds. What I saw looked beautiful, though, and I can imagine this being a lovely spot for a wedding, another event or a romantic getaway.

I didn't want to leave after our night here. We were upgraded to a lake-view room, and the estate itself is stunning, with wildlife and walking trails around the water. Everyone was lovely, especially the owner, Nick, who makes sure guests feel welcome. Breakfast was good too. Hopefully we'll be back soon.

The room could use more storage, and there wasn't a bedside cabinet. The style was nice, but a bit too contemporary for my taste. They're renovating, which is great for bringing the decor back to how it was, so some photos show how it looked in previous years. The breakfast room was very dark, though we were lucky to have breakfast by the lake. There were also no outside lights when we came back in the evening. Even so, we had a lovely stay, and everyone was friendly and helpful from booking right through to goodbye. The spot by the lake is fantastic. Special thanks to Bev and Hazel. We'll definitely return.
