The Normandie

The room was okay, though the bed felt a bit narrow for two larger people. The shower was nice, but it was over the bath and I’d have preferred a separate one. The food was tasty and plentiful, although coleslaw or salad with curry was a new one for me.

We had a group of ten for food on New Year’s Day. The homemade meals were amazing, and all ten arrived at the same time. The team were very helpful too. We’ll visit again next time we’re in Tenby.

I felt deeply uncomfortable during my stay. I was in the shower when my friend called for me to come out right away because someone was trying to get into our room. A man said he was hotel staff, but when he knocked, he didn’t explain who he was or why he was there. Less than a minute later, he tried to unlock the door with a key. My friend stopped him and asked who he was. He said there was a water leak and that he needed to come in. My friend asked him to wait until I was out of the shower. I called reception straight away to report the attempted entry, but the receptionist seemed not to know anyone had been sent upstairs. It took ten minutes and another call before she came to check. When she saw the man, she confirmed he was a member of hotel staff. I told them it was unacceptable to try to enter a guest’s room without clearly explaining the reason or waiting for proper permission, especially when someone is showering. The staff member just said, “There’s a leak. One minute is long enough to wait.” That attitude and poor communication were completely unacceptable and showed extremely poor management. If staff are sent to a room, reception should know and clearly inform the guest. No one should feel unsafe or unsure about who is trying to enter.

My sister and I stopped in for Sunday lunch while staying in Tenby. The staff were really friendly and helpful, the service was great, and there’s a dog-friendly area. We’re both picky eaters, but she said it was the best Sunday lunch she’d had out. The food is highly recommended.
