I stay in a lot of hotels for work, and thankfully none so far have matched this gateway to hell. We had no internet at all, either Wi-Fi or mobile data. There was just one key for two people in the room. The child labourer at reception explained that because it was a physical key rather than a keycard, naturally each lock only has one key that works, as if the whole world had agreed to this. We got one bath towel each, plus one universal towel for the bath mat, hair, and hands; it was changed once in our four-night stay. To get replacement toilet paper, you’d think you had to hand over your first-born. The toilet rolls might as well have been permanent fixtures, since the cleaner came into our room only once and didn’t tidy it. Even with just one key, getting out wasn’t like escaping Alcatraz: the front door didn’t work, and reception was reliably unmanned. Five stars as a comparison point for appreciating every other hotel stay.

The interiors felt dated and due for a refresh, though the price gives you an idea why. Our first room stank of smoke as soon as we opened the door. They moved us quickly and apologised, and the receptionist was genuinely helpful and friendly. The room we ended up in was okay, but its main light didn’t work and there was no hand towel. There were only three sockets, all in use by the TV, kettle and radiator, so we had to unplug things to charge our phones. I’d expect a socket by the bed. Around 1:30am, very loud guests above us woke us up. The stomping and creaking were so bad it felt as if the ceiling might cave in. The stay was fine, but basic and frustrating in a few ways. You get what you pay for.

The rooms seemed a little tired, though everything was clean and tidy. Reception staff were pleasant and helpful. I’d use the place again, and the location was good.

We were very happy with the stay. The location was ideal for where we wanted to be, Lincoln showground, and we were next door to Gregg's for breakfast the next morning. We arrived late, but the receptionist was lovely and friendly. The only issue was that the heater had been left on, making the room very warm. It was easy to switch off, though the room took a while to cool down.

Easy to find, and our room was quiet. A brilliant, perfect stay. I wouldn’t hesitate to come back.
