St Clair Hotel

It looked sketchy from outside, but inside it was FANTASTIC! The room was super cute and had a view, the shower was good, and the service, wifi and location were all great. I really wish I’d stayed longer. Ten stars! ⭐️

The staff were amazing, can’t fault them. It had a lovely traditional Scottish atmosphere, and breakfast tasted good even though some items weren’t available after my husband ordered a full brekkie. The room was spacious and looked and smelled clean at first glance. If I’m being picky, the TV buttons were sticky and dusty, and the Freeview signal wasn’t great, but he didn’t use the TV anyway. He’d booked two nights but stayed just one after work travel. Traffic noise wasn’t as bad as some reviews suggested, though morning traffic was louder with deliveries to the hotel and nearby buildings, which is to be expected.

I’d been warned it was very old-fashioned and country-styled, so I wasn’t expecting much from the design. But the food was the best I’ve had in Scotland so far, and the service was right on point. It could use a design refresh, but it’s still a lovely place to stay.

Everything else about the hotel was first class, which made Wednesday morning’s breakfast such a letdown. The sausage wasn’t cooked through, the bacon was so overdone it was hard to cut, and the scrambled egg was rubbery and didn’t look or taste like egg. It was a shame to leave with that as the final memory.
