Fernside Cottage

We were blown away by Fernside during our 2 night stay. It’s tucked away in the quiet Devon countryside and feels like a real hidden gem. Before we arrived, my boyfriend phoned with a few questions and Linda was so helpful. Linda and Ian welcomed us warmly, showed us around, let us pick our breakfast from a menu for the next morning, and then took us to our room. Linda soon brought up a thermos of fresh milk so we could make coffee there. The room was beautiful, with country living decor, a full en suite, a separate waterfall shower and a claw foot tub. There were lovely smelling lotions, fluffy towels, a robe each, a TV, matching chest of drawers, a dressing table, a large dress mirror, a wardrobe and a king sized bed that was unbelievably comfortable. It was dark when we arrived late in the evening, but in the morning we could see the hills and the garden Linda and Ian keep so beautifully. There’s a pond you can walk to. Ian will gladly give you an apple from his kitchen to feed the horses on the way. Ian cooked an incredible breakfast. On the first morning we had yoghurt and fruit to start, then smoked salmon with scrambled egg, home grown tomatoes and homemade bread baked that morning, with hot filtered coffee from a cafetiere. The menu offered several choices, and the next morning we both had a full English. The ingredients were locally sourced and ordered grown, and you could taste it. Linda and Ian have earned every penny of our custom, and every glowing 5 star review displayed on the dining room walls. The whole stay felt sophisticated but personal. Thanks so much for having us. On our way home from Cornwall, we spent a peaceful, lovely night at this B&B. The location was ideal, with a spectacular view, and the room was very comfortable. Breakfast was absolutely delicious. I also left my Kindle behind, and the owners kindly posted it back to my home. That was incredibly thoughtful. It was perfect from start to finish, and I highly recommend it.

My partner and I had a surprise night away here, and the grounds were stunning. Our hosts were so friendly and helpful. The room was lovely, with an en suite and a bath that was completely my style. They’d left complimentary tea, water, coffee/m and chocolate. From our gorgeous balcony we could see two beautiful horses and a breathtaking view. Breakfast was outstanding, with homemade bread and jams. The bed was ridiculously comfortable, I didn’t want to get up! It was perfect, and I’d definitely go back. Thank you. X

We’re so glad we made it to Fernside despite storm Dennis and flooded roads. Lynda and Ian were wonderful hosts, and every detail had been thought of in their beautifully refurbished Devon cottage. Our room was spotless, with high end furniture and fittings, and the bed, bedding and towels were all very good quality. The shower was so good I’d pay just to use it. Breakfast was cooked perfectly with locally sourced food, home baked bread, homemade jam and marmalade, and even home produced granola. The sausages and bacon had Taste of the West Gold medals, and tasted worthy of them. Thanks for a relaxing stay. We’ll be back, perhaps in Summer when the weather is kinder.
