I came across this lovely little hostel while bikepacking through Tomintoul. It was empty and I hadn't booked, but I called the number on the door and got access. I was the only one there that night, which felt a little strange, but I enjoyed it. The place was clean, the showers were decent, and the living area was nice. I sat and read a book.
We camped in the garden and used the facilities. Everything was clean and warm, and the drying shed was excellent!
We camped in the garden and could use the facilities. It's a typical youth hostel, with a great kitchen. It smelled a bit when it wasn't ventilated, but was fine once aired out.
I liked seeing the secure bike sheds, drying facilities, and e-bike charging. There are camping pitches in the hostel garden, which has several apple trees. I stayed one night and had the whole building to myself, apart from a brief visit from a staff member at breakfast. The dorm rooms are small but fine, and the kitchen is very well equipped for self-catering with plenty of seating. The village shop, pub, and restaurants are only a few minutes' walk away.
There are a few camping pitches outside the hostel, and campers can use all the facilities. It's a nice place to stop over while travelling through the Cairngorms. There's also a great restaurant in town within walking distance.
