We visited on 3 May 2026 and found dirty cutlery waiting at our table, which immediately made me wonder if eating there was wise. It wasn’t. The food was very average, service poor, and we had to ask for sauces several times. I don’t blame the waiters and waitresses, but whoever trained them. The beef was overcooked, the roast potatoes horrifically so, the Yorkshire pudding and the little sausage inside it were cold, and the parsnips tasted really odd. The table wobbled, and the lock on the ladies’ toilet door was troublesome. My wife was nearly trapped inside. We wanted to support a local business, but first impressions matter, and this one failed. During a cost of living crisis, a meal out is a treat for many, so average food and poor service really aren’t acceptable. I won’t return, and I doubt the rest of our party will either. Some basic customer service training and common sense would help make the experience better. 1*

We’ve been back several times since first trying this restaurant and are glad we gave it a go. There’s always a friendly welcome, a good choice of food and drink, and meals are cooked to order and arrive piping hot. Highly recommend.

We stopped at the Lamb on our way back from Bath, having not been for many years. It used to be a lovely pub with fresh home-cooked food and great beer on tap, so it’s sad to see how it’s changed. It’s now part of the small zia pizza chain, and the food seemed mass-produced and reheated from frozen, with no real cooking involved. Our pizzas were soggy in the middle. The staff were friendly enough, and the beer and wine selection was OK. The glossy printed menus looked like they never change, which should have been a clue. Such a shame, and we won’t be back.

My partner, friend and I ordered using the QR code, then had three different waitresses ask us the same thing about ordering drinks or food. Two Pepsis and a tea took about 20 minutes to arrive, and the food came nearly 40 minutes after we ordered. I had to ask for a spoon with my stew, and the pork ribs were like ones from Iceland or asda. I love ribs, but these were so overdone I struggled to get the meat off the bone. There was mostly bone and very little meat. We all had dessert, which was lovely, but had to ask for the cream that the pudding menu said was included. The repeated photos and videos from a man with a camera were really uncomfortable while we were eating. I understand taking a couple for publicity, but he kept coming around. The waitresses were lovely, but the restaurant needs a plan for each evening because nobody seemed to know what was happening. The table behind us had uncooked chicken, so I’m a little concerned about whether our pork was undercooked too. We’ll have to wait and see. After such a bad evening, we definitely wouldn’t come again, even though we eat out regularly.
