After seeing this pub mentioned on the CAMRA website so many times, I finally got to visit today, despite living way up in the far north of Scotland. We only came in for lunch, but the sandwiches were superb and the portions generous. There was a great range of real ale from their own brewery, and my wife really liked the red wine. The staff were friendly, attentive and efficient, and there are lots of wonderful "sayings" on the walls inside and out. If we lived nearby, this would definitely be our local. Thanks to everyone at Twice Brewed, and I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys a classic country pub with good beer, food and red wine.

We came across this pub while visiting The Sill, and it was a really good stop for lunch. The food was excellent and good value, £39 for two people including a meal and a couple of drinks. It was busy with hikers, bikers and locals. A short walk from Hadrians Wall.

We always make a point of stopping here when we're in the area. The pub welcomes dogs, has plenty of room inside and lovely grounds to sit in when the weather's good. Great range of beer, and the tap room makes it even better. We've stayed in the rooms too. Ours was small, but spotless and quiet. The staff are always helpful, and we love the place.

We were in the region to visit Hadrian Wall and needed somewhere for lunch. We chose this pub after reading the reviews, and it was a great find. The decor is lovely, there's a huge selection of meals, and dogs are welcome. The food was super too. We'd highly recommend it.

We came for the star gazing evening and ate a two-course meal beforehand. The menu looked appealing, but the small print listed things like gluten, sulphites and dairy under each course. There were only two suitable courses for someone avoiding gluten, and just one meal okay for someone with sulphite allergies. No gluten-free options, and seeing sulphites listed in fish and chips and other basic dishes you'd make at home was annoying. The wild mushrooms on sour bread were okay but quite salty. The fish pie with cheesy mash and mixed veg was also okay, though the filling was bland and the topping didn't taste of cheese. Some herbs might have brought out the flavour. The trio of pork looked more like a starter: two small square pieces of very fatty belly pork that seemed boiled, a palm-sized piece of pork cheek, and a pork and apple sausage that tasted mostly of apple. The rest was bland, and it came without vegetables or potatoes. For the prices and lack of options for people with dietary problems, it was very disappointing.
