Locholly Lodge

Our third stay here, this time for three days over New Year with friends. The house was immaculate as always, with plenty of room to cook and relax, and very comfortable beds. It's a peaceful spot that's great for walking, with beautiful views over the summer isles. Many thanks to the hosts, who have always been extremely helpful.

After we raised cleanliness concerns and left an honest review, the host accused us of damage, excessive mess, missing items and bad behaviour. We completely deny those claims. We then recorded a detailed video of the whole property at checkout and sent it directly to Airbnb as evidence of its condition when we left. It is troubling that the allegations came only after the host knew we were unhappy. The response felt retaliatory and unprofessional, not like an effort to resolve the problems. On arrival, the house had not been properly cleaned, and the bedding had dirty sheets. That's completely unacceptable. Basic cleaning supplies were missing too, including washing machine detergent or tablets and other essential items, which you'd reasonably expect in a property for eight guests. Some parts of the property were restricted without warning: the sliding garden door and an upstairs window door were locked, making the house feel closed off and unlike what was advertised. This was one of our worst stays, and I feel others should know. Future guests should document the cleanliness and condition at arrival and departure, as raising legitimate concerns may lead to a dispute afterward.

The underfloor heating was great, and the seating area was comfortable for taking in those stunning views. Our bed was extra cosy and everything was super clean. We also had a sauna and hot tub to unwind in. Had a fantastic time at Locholly Lodge, definitely recommend it and can't wait to return.

We drove nearly five hours from Glasgow and paid £1300 for three days, only to find the cottage in such poor, dirty condition. All the sheets, pillowcases and blankets were dirty, smelled unpleasant, and clearly hadn't been changed for a long time. There weren't even basic supplies like shampoo, hand soap, dish soap, laundry detergent or clean towels. It's shameful that the owner provided none of the basic necessities. We were eight people staying for three days, and honestly didn't enjoy the stay at all. The owner didn't answer our messages or calls, or respond to our questions. It felt like we'd thrown our money away by booking this cottage, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
