Lochview Guest House

The hosts were lovely, and greeted us at the door with information about the room and Ullapool. There was a great choice of tea, coffee and porridge, and the bed was very comfortable and well heated, which we were grateful for. The location was perfect, and you can tell the owners work hard. We stayed four nights as part of our NC500 trip. Sadly, the bathroom was very dated, and the toilet seat and shampoo dispenser weren't fixed properly. Our biggest issue was the noise. We could hear absolutely everything, from snoring and talking to people using the bathroom. Sleep was lacking, and what sounded like slamming doors and banging from other guests kept waking us early.

There are some good points: our Little Loch Broom Suite was clean and quite large, and the bathroom was new and fitted for disabled guests. But the bed wasn't comfortable or wide enough for two, the shower had minimal water pressure, and trees blocked most of the view. You could hear every footstep from the room above. At £140 a night, this was far too expensive for what we got. It was the most expensive night of our two-and-a-half week Scotland trip, and also the worst. Communication was poor: they didn't answer the phone, saying it was because they had full time jobs, and replied to only one of my two emails. There was no breakfast, which we knew in advance but still counted as a downside, and we had to let ourselves in with a code, with no welcome or reception. It was the cheapest available option in Ullapool even though we booked months ahead. I'd suggest looking for a nice B&B outside town rather than staying in Ullapool.

The views were amazing, and we even had snow! The snowman in the garden was a fun bonus. The room was a lovely size, with a kettle, hair dryer and a nice big shower.

We travelled by motorbike and found parking easy and safe. It was a short walk to Ullapool's amenities, and we were given several recommendations for breakfast and evening meals. The owners welcomed us warmly, and the helpful information by email before arrival was much appreciated. Our room was well appointed with everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. We had a lovely, comfortable three nights at the Lockview Guest House and hope to return soon.
