Bank End Lodge

The quiet location and beautiful garden made it easy to enjoy some peace, and we had a lovely walk around the valley from the house. There was plenty of room for our large group, including around the table when we played cards, and we were surprised by how spacious and clean the Lodge was. The rooms were cosy and immaculate, and the hot tub was amazing. We also had a great dinner at the local Greyhound Inn. We all adored the place, a 10/10 stay!

We’d love to come back after a wonderful week here in June. The garden meals and hot tub, with those amazing views, made our stay extra special. Greyhound, the local pub, was welcoming and served very good food. There are local walks from the lodge, and it’s a good base for exploring the lakes. The lodge is beautifully situated, thoughtfully laid out and very well equipped. The proprietors were kind and helpful. Highly recommended.

We were 10 people staying in late June. The place was spacious and clean, with comfortable beds and good equipment. The pond is badly overgrown, though, and bugs meant none of us could eat outside. We all ended up covered in itchy bites. Parking is down a very steep, uneven hill, which made getting in and out difficult.

The lodge has a lovely outdoor area for family use, a good hot tub and a well equipped kitchen. Inside, the bedrooms are spacious, the beds comfortable and the lounge a decent size. We enjoyed the valley view, local walks and the location for trips into the Lakes or south to the Barrow peninsula. We had a pleasant seven-night stay, but there were several issues that brought this down to three stars. There’s a main road right beside the house, and traffic noise starts around 6am. Vehicles approaching from the west can be heard for about half a minute. It was hot during our stay, so we needed the windows open overnight and could hear every car, lorry, motorbike and emergency vehicle going past at 60mph. The nearby dog kennels are also within earshot, and the dogs start up in the early hours. Some floors and most of the staircases squeak badly, and the layout of the two adjoining properties means you can hear a lot from the neighbours. For a place that sleeps 10, the space felt cramped. There were three children in our group, and even with smaller people it could be a squeeze to get around each other. The lodge parking, unlike the Barn parking, is down a steep slope and difficult to use. That’s just my experience, but I don’t think these aspects of the property were made clear enough before booking. I thought it was fair to mention them so other people don’t book an expensive holiday and end up disappointed.
