The barn had a great feel and plenty of power points, though it was dusty, which made sense for the space. My band, @priceofmypig, played a wedding ceilidh there last night, followed by a playlist. Food and speeches were in another lovely part of the venue, with the barn used for the ceilidh and disco.

We had a much-needed holiday in Hampsfell cottage, and it was a marvellous stay even with all the rain and drizzle. It was extremely comfortable, had everything we needed, and the beds were hotel quality. We both slept really well. The mist made the walled garden behind the main house feel especially atmospheric, and it was handy having the cafe for lunch and coffee, plus a gift shop with lots of lovely things. We don’t drive, but the walk from the station is straightforward, via the path by the primary school and then through the fields. Walking shoes are needed when it’s wet. We used a local cab firm to eat in town one evening and had a delicious Indian meal delivered another night. I’ve visited Swarthmoor for work in the past, as I work for the Quakers, but this time I came with a friend. We’ll be back.

The cafe was pleasant, and there’s parking on site. It was interesting to see a historic house and learn about the Quakers. This was the first major gathering point and organisation for the movement.

There’s a lovely café with seating on two floors, a small gift shop, and parking for cars and motorhomes. The staff and volunteers were friendly and welcoming. It’s an interesting place to visit to learn about the foundations of the Quaker movement and its basis in peace and love for humanity and creation.
