The Butler's House

Mel was a brilliant host, with great communication and a very accommodating approach. We had an excellent stay at the Butler’s House. It’s a beautiful place with great facilities, and well located for visiting the area. We love it here and would highly recommend it.

Parking was a bit of a nightmare. We had a pass for a nearby spot, but it was always full when we got back in the evening. We had to drive around to find a space a few minutes’ walk away, pay at the nearby car park, or leave the car on the single yellows and move it in the morning. Noise also travels very clearly from the kitchen up to the twin room, so I wouldn’t put a light sleeper there. The bathroom lock seemed broken or at least temperamental. Still, those things didn’t spoil our stay and wouldn’t stop me returning. The parking is one of the costs of being centrally located, and I was lucky to have the double room, so I only heard about the kitchen noise second hand. The place itself is lovely, cosy, comfortable, and decorated to a high standard. The wood burner heats the lounge quickly when it’s chilly, and the radiators do a good job through the rest of the house. The bathroom is nice, with a wonderful shower. There was surprisingly little noise from the road outside.

A brilliant find for a short break or holiday. The beds and furniture were comfy, the kitchen was well fitted, and there was even a roll top bath and a good size TV. It’s cosy, with a real log fire. The house has been beautifully restored and finished to a high standard throughout. We’d definitely stay again.
