The Roaches Bunkhouse

The beds were comfortable, there was plenty of room for everyone, and there’s a lovely walk right from the door with a pub nearby for a pint afterwards. It’s a great place for a group, but a couple of details let it down. The big kitchen doesn’t have enough kit for cooking for a crowd: there are three shelves across the two ovens but only two baking trays. Also, the showers have no temperature control, so if the water feels too hot to you, there’s nothing you can do about it.

The communal spaces and cooking setup are well planned, and the bunkhouse has good facilities. In the bedrooms, though, there could be more hooks for drying towels, and some storage under the beds would be useful for bags.

We had the best time celebrating my sister’s hen do here, and we’re definitely coming back. It was perfect for bringing all our friends and family together, with loads of space, very clean rooms and a gorgeous setting. The lovely couple who own and run it were kind and easy to communicate with. They also gave us great tips for the local area and helped with anything else we needed.

My group of former university climbers has stayed at a lot of bunkhouses, and this is easily the best one so far. I’d highly recommend it.
