The Swan Hotel

When we arrived for our planned overnight stop in Cornwall, they searched for our keys and took us upstairs. The place looked very old. A staff member opened our room door, and there was a man in bed. She said it was fine because he was one of the locals, then went to sort out the mix-up. We felt so uncomfortable and unsafe that we left and didn’t return. They didn’t seem to know where people were staying. If there had been a fire, how would they know where to look? We went to another hotel in Padstow, and it was so beautiful.

The staff were very nice, and there are plenty of places to eat and drink nearby. It’s a nice place to stay for a few nights, though there was a lot of noise from retailers opening early. The food was nice, but my chilli con carne was lukewarm. I think Room 2 needs a new mattress.

I’ve been a KHG member since 2022 and used to receive a £10 birthday voucher each year. At some point the system changed and my voucher stopped working, but apparently it was my fault, not the system that sent it. Mark, an untidy man who called me “babe,” told me to ask a younger person to sort it out and suggested I check my spam folder. That felt sexist and ageist. The £30 meal was poor too. My burger was dry, my partner’s tomato sauce was inedible, his sandwich was soggy, and my brioche bun was soggy as well. Service was slow, and the venue was uncomfortable. KHG needs to fix its system instead of insulting customers. We’re not impressed. I’ve paid less for lunch in London and had wonderful service and great food. The staff there were immaculate too, not grubby around the edges. I won’t return to this scruffy Wadebridge venue. I’m local and grew up in St Ives, so the comment that I wasn’t local was simply wrong.

We stopped to charge the car, watch a football game and have a glass of wine, and found a lovely place. It was clean and welcoming, with a great atmosphere. There’s a beautiful river walk across the road. We’d definitely return next time we pass through Wadebridge.
