We came in for lunch as a group of three and got a warm welcome in a quiet pub. The menu is short, but the traditional pub dishes and snacks offer something for everyone except vegans. The food was excellent, nicely cooked, generously portioned and fairly priced. With the high street fairly busy, I can’t understand why this pub is so quiet. It shouldn’t be.

We only came for lunch, so I can’t comment on the rooms, but we left impressed. The fish and chips had a really good batter, and the southern fried chicken was juicy, crisp and well seasoned. Both were good value, and the light breading brought out the flavour instead of covering it up. Some pubs make food like this greasy, but that wasn’t the case here.

Huge portions, quick and polite service, everything cooked really well, and a surprisingly reasonable price. My wife agreed with me that it was probably one of the best Sunday roasts either of us has ever had. We’ll be back to eat here again very soon.

Our first visit was for lunch from the new tapas-style sharing menu, and it was a pleasant surprise. The food was excellent, the service efficient and super friendly. We can definitely recommend the place.
