The food is a real reason to visit, so don't leave this place off your list if you enjoy eating well. Our room was spacious and clean, and everyone on staff was friendly and polite. Nothing was too much trouble. We'll definitely stay again and pass the word along to anyone looking for a break. Cheers to everyone at the red lion.

The pub felt both luxurious and homely inside, with plenty of room to sit privately. We dropped in for a quick meal and a taste of local ales, and enjoyed both the food and the ales. The locals welcomed us warmly when we arrived, which isn't always what you get in a small village.

The evening food was limited to cured meats, cheeses and a few homemade bar snacks, as the waitress explained when I asked about the menu. We went out to eat that night, and only by chance heard from the local pub that Red lion guests could get 10 per cent off at their place and others. The hotel hadn't mentioned it. The staff were very welcoming and helpful, and let us check in an hour early. Our room was very clean and looked recently done, though closer up there was some damage that I can only assume previous guests had caused. We were still happy with it overall. We came downstairs after 10, expecting the kitchen to be closed, but were told we could still choose from the board of cured meats and cheeses. It was delicious and felt like a treat. Breakfast in the dining room was also delicious, though service was slow. Would we return? Yes, in summer. In winter, when it's cold and raining, definitely not.

It's great to see the Red Lion supporting local people and visiting families through the Welcome Breastfeeding Scheme in Dorset. I've booked meals here for small family occasions and larger groups, and the staff have always been really friendly. Management are on hand in the restaurant for questions about menus and dietary needs. It's a friendly place with a great team and an extensive gin menu.

Lovely pub, good food, and really nice staff. The bed was the one problem. It creaked so badly that I had to buy earplugs for the following night, and every small movement woke me up. I wouldn't stay in room 12 or 11 again. Seems easy enough to sort with decent beds.
