Everyone enjoyed their food, and the fresh ingredients came with lovely presentation. My husband said the beef brisket burger was the best he’d had in years. The staff were both professional and friendly, happy to accommodate requests and make sure we had a good meal. We came for Sunday lunch and had a great experience. The cappuccinos were okay, though next time I’d order an Americano with cream.

We booked this hotel because we had a place at the observatory. The restaurant food was good, and the two course Valentine’s menu was reasonably priced. Staff were friendly and attentive, though we felt rushed when they began moving tables and laying things out for breakfast while we were eating. Our room, number 14, was dated, noisy and hot. We paid £125 PN including breakfast for the cheapest room. The bath had a curtain rather than a screen, so we didn’t use the shower. The complimentary tea and coffee tray had a good selection, and the fresh fruit was a nice touch. It’s advertised as a 4 star hotel, but the receptionist told us at checkout that it was a 2 star establishment.

A great base for exploring Northumberland. The Observatory is out of this world, and I think the chap running it is called Jimmy. A legend. Move over Prof. Brian Cox! The hotel is thoughtfully planned, with wonderful rooms, good food and service, and lots of attention to detail. Great place, well located.

We spent one night in a lodge room, with dinner and breakfast included, to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The place was immaculate and comfortable, and so much thought had gone into the little details that we felt properly pampered. We’re so glad we marked our special anniversary there. I can’t wait to return.

The old and new parts have been renovated with real care. In this small village, the hotel and restaurant are nicely appointed, with comfortable bedrooms that have what you need for a stay. There’s also ample parking, including two disabled spaces. The sunken beer garden is lovely for a sunny day, and dinner and breakfast were delicious, with a good menu choice. Friendly staff too.
