Whitby On The Hill

This place was absolutely awful and very unpleasant. The photos are seriously misleading. The bathroom had mould, the windows were dirty, and there was dust everywhere, with filthy skirting boards and cobwebs in the room corners. The entrance and stairs were filthy, dusty and smelled bad, and there was no light by the front door to help us get in safely or see where to put the key. The apartment stairs were already filthy when we arrived. We had no hot water for two days because of a boiler problem, and it was hard to get hold of the host about it. The WiFi password didn’t work either. A mop and bucket had just been left in the bedroom, with nowhere to store them. The living room was ugly, with folding tables lined up against the wall and old, ugly folding chairs dumped in the corner. There was also an unwanted dirty highchair there. The chipped plates and ancient soup cups were unpleasant to use. The room cupboards offered no storage. Very unpleasant overall.

The location is good, and the views over the rooftops are lovely. We stayed here on 12, 13 and 14 April 2024. The apartment needs some TLC. When the electricity went out on arrival, there were no emergency contact details, so I had to search through emails to find a contact. There were no heating instructions or chopping board, and no hoover, which may explain why the stairs up to the apartment were so messy. Three kitchen cupboards were full of things left by previous visitors. The cooker hood was filthy and only one of its lights worked. The bathroom lights were very poor, and there were no details about rubbish disposal or recycling.

Clean, well equipped, and well maintained.
