The Reid Hall

The owners were warm and welcoming, and had loads of useful local knowledge. They can also give you a lift to or from the airport and ferry terminal if needed. The room felt homely, though it was a little chilly. The noisy air conditioner didn’t give off much heat, but the electric blanket kept us toasty. It’s an old building, and the wooden floors carry noise. We had breakfast early, though a later sitting might mean hearing quite a bit of kitchen noise. The B&B is just outside Pierowall on the main road south, an easy walk from the village shops and restaurant. A cosy little stay on a beautiful island.

Lin greeted us when we arrived and talked us through the place. The building is quite old and next to what used to be a church, so I hadn’t expected much, but it turned out to be really good. It’s noticeably more techy than most accommodation, thanks to Adam, who can chat away about electronics and also cook a fabulous breakfast. After breakfast, Lin drove us to the airport and stayed with us until we left, talking about Orkney and plenty more. The place itself is nice, but the super friendly owners are what make it great. I’d strongly recommend staying here if you’re visiting Westray.

We really didn’t want to leave the island, but work called. Lynn and Adam are the best, and it was such a good place to stay. From the outside it doesn’t look so nice, maybe, but inside there’s a big living room and kitchen, plus two separate places to sleep. Very, very, very good!

Our hosts at the Reid Hall were wonderful, and they were a big part of why we absolutely loved our time on Westray. If you’re thinking of visiting Orkney, get up to Westray and stay at the Reid Hall!
